Whining? Still? Really? Really?

When the original JS died most of the JS regulars - the ones who have been around for ages - well they just cried a river and I can totally understand that.  The loss of community was great and sad.  Most found their way to other sites and complained and bit$%ed about the lack of community and how hard it was to change.

So, they have given you JS back - the sense of community  - getting all the regulars that want to come back in one fairly nice neat little space.  Sure the set up is different (that’s good - maybe it won’t crash) - the navigation is a little strange for some. BUT THEY GAVE YOU WANT YOU WANTED THE MOST - A SENSE OF COMMUNITY - A GATHERING OF ONLINE FRIENDS ON ONE SPOT.

And yet many still complain - “oh it’s hard here” and “I was used to the other place”  and blah blah blah!

Honestly!

Instead of dwelling on what you don’t have try remembering you have exactly what you missed the most (or at least said you missed the most) = JSers on one spot.

no, Kelly, there is no sense of community here, not like we’re used to. Like I mentioned in my journal here, strangers with blank journals are starting to ask us to be friends. And the community is only together because we already KNOW each other! And, of course, the name “journalspace”. I’m not deleting… and I’ll still keep peeking in and I do hope more glitches get fixed soon.

You must admit, we only came here because of the name…

*laughing* I get frustrated with trying to navigate here, but won’t leave for the reasons you so succinctly site. However, I am so technology impaired that I don’t mind the basic-ness of the journal designs, etc. Those who enjoy changing everything, well, I can see how/why it would cause issue-idges.

How are you feeling these days? How is Emma Belle? My doxie, Arnie had a pinched nerve in his lower spine last year, and it was horrid for all of us until his pain eased. I had to give him muscle relaxers and baby aspirin for a month…

Anyway, I hope all is well. I keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

    take care- Gina (db)

I think it’s the newness of the place, I’m glad to have the community back, I’m just waiting for it to feel more comfortable so I can write here properly again.

It’s like wearing someone else’s jacket at the moment.

Yeah, I know what you are saying. At first I was pretty ok with what I had lost. Then I heard of others getting alot of their stuff back through the cache on Google. Well I couldn’t I guess because of some stupid setting I had on my journal (even though it wasn’t F&F) So then I got pretty upset that I had lost about 5.5 years worth of useless drivel. But whatever, now I’m over it and have moved on. I have my place at Blogger and I started my place here. I am a patient person (not usually though hahaha) So we’ll just wait and see what happens.

you are right, is human nature to complain, which I would never do, over an online blog…

  6. gaily Says:

It was a very thoughtful gesture to get us JS space so that we could all have a familiar name to go back to. That was too cool. I myself really don’t like the navigation/interface as much at new JS, but it reminds me (once again) you never know what you have until you lose it. I truly appreciate the efforts WP put into making us a new home and will quit whining! ;) Good post. (Truth hurts) Thank you WordPress.

  7. captainmando Says:

Kelly, I completely and wholeheartedly agree. People have to remember that the new JS admins don’t owe us jack shit and have every right to do whatever the hell they want. They didn’t have to bring JS back at all.

And, actually, I find that creating a sense of community here is MUCH easier than at Wordpress and Blogspot because we can see recent posts on the HOMEPAGE (that everyone bitched about needing) as well as commenting more specifically to just our little community in our “JS Refugees” group.

I’m getting so tired of seeing grown adults throwing temper tantrums like little kids just because they haven’t gotten 100% of what they wanted…yet (remember that they’re still working on it)!

NEvertheless , I’m soooooooooo happy that I got my blogong address back !

You have just started reading all the whining. It’s been going on since day one. There will always be critics. But I like it here just fine. I don’t see the big issue. I’m glad you and Scott made it here! The people are what make it a community. And we already have that! Yay!!

  10. lifelived Says:

most people are change resistant, but a simple life truth is that nothing stays the same - including us!! I choose not to complain. I choose to learn new things and make the best of everything. I am dwelling on what I see as positives. I am delighted that despite the poor previous business practice of no incremental backups and no off site backups, we still managed to find each other irregardless of where we all ended up. Dorrie deserves much thanks for that.

  11. westy Says:

I think you all forget, this place is NOT journalspace… it’s only the name! We are here with our community because we already know each other. I’m still giving it a chance… it is just very confusing and could be much easier with a different format then Wordpress (there are many others out there). I bet if blogspot had a homepage, we would all be there.

I’m not whining, I’m just frustrated because it IS quite confusing here. And why, if this was Wordpress, don’t they have the blogsurfer function? That would make us all a lot happier, too.

Everyone knows I try the hardest to keep us all together… but I also know that not everyone is a computer nerd… it needs to be easier to work with.

I wish our peanuts back….. *sigh* but I, too, will adapt..one way or another.

  12. becomingkates Says:

I’ll read my faves no matter where they are, and learn how to navigate each site. It’ll just take time!

  13. doanli64 Says:

I just try to go with the flow…I just love the internet and all of the friends I have made that I would never have met otherwise.

  14. captainmando Says:

Journalspace is wherever we make it to be. If Blogspot had a homepage, we might all be there, yes, but Blogspot does NOT have a homepage.

It’s extremely likely that the new JS admins chose to use BuddyPress because that’s what Dylan recommended the new buyer use. Because they had never seen the old Journalspace, they had to take the former owner at his word that this was the closest to what we had in the past (and so far, it IS the closest thing as far as features go). You can’t blame them for that. Besides, if they’d taken months doing trial and error in mixing and matching different features of different blogging sites, we all would have been settled in elsewhere and how likely would it have been that we would all pack up and move back to JS after months had gone by? Extremely unlikely.

They’re doing the best they can to accommodate everyone and help keep our community together. We need to be thankful for what they have already given us and for the things they plan to give us in the near future.

  15. diesel41 Says:

    JournalSpace is us.

  16. wizardress Says:

I was on JS for almost five years when it crashed, and surprisinly I was not heartbroken or sick when it died… The reason being is that as much as I love JS, it’s the people who made it what it was, and I knewhow to contact most of the ones I’d become friends with outside of the JS realm.

I’m not sure I’ll write here full time any longer, but I’m a creature of habit and I may .. but I definitely think that JS is going to be different, since it IS different.

I’m with Kate when I say that I’ll read those I enjoy reading regardless of where they write, even though I haven’t had time as of late because I’m still in MS.

I’ve got my old journals on back up and am going to possibly be adding old entries that I found to be important back on my wizardress journal once I get home..

    *big hugs*
